Welcome

I'm Jack, the celebrant behind Humble Handfasting. I design and hold wedding ceremonies for couples who want depth, humour and humanity at the heart of their day.

Sometimes that means a full Celtic handfasting under an ancient oak. Sometimes it means saying I do by the sea with a dog as witness. Both work. Both get my full attention.

Why a handfasting?

Long before signed certificates

two people would stand together and have their hands bound with cord — a public, physical promise. The phrase tying the knot comes from this very ritual.

A handfasting can stand alone or sit at the heart of a larger ceremony. It's ancient but it doesn't have to feel ancient. We can build it any shape you like — Celtic and elemental, or stripped right back to a single ribbon and the words that matter most.

How it works

Three simple steps

I.

We talk.

A quiet call. What matters most? Your grandmother's ring? A reading from the novel you both underlined?

II.

I write.

A ceremony that no one else could have. You'll see drafts. You'll tell me what to change.

III.

I hold the day.

I arrive early. I greet your people. I hold the moment, and I get out of the way of it.

Let's talk

Tell me a little about your day, even if it's still vague. I reply within 24 hours, usually much sooner.
